Better or Different in Performance Reviews

In his press conference after the election last week President Obama said a few times he had to do a better job.

Others, it seems, want him to do some things differently.

If you’re someone who compiles performance reviews for employees the distinction between better and different ought to be of interest. Being specific about what should be done differently will lead to better performance. Specificity is important. Vague is stressful. It leaves people with dangling uncertainty. And that diminishes performance.
